You have to synthesize the Abyss Cell and activate the Abyss power supply in Crimson Desert as part of the main story of Chapter 1 - right after you get into Hernand castle and find the alchemist's chamber. This tricky Abyss Cell puzzle comes after the process of learning Axiom Force and making your way across the skybridge into the heart of the Abyss.

Once at the heart, after activating the Abyss Nexus, your next task is to remove the wall blocking the floor. You can do this by moving the floating power core with Axiom Force to the deactivated lantern on the power core's right. After Kliff does this, you'll get the tricky 'Synthesize the Abyss Cell' task. This guide has step-by-step instructions on how to do that, plus how to complete the other tricky task that pops up after, the one asking you to activate the Abyss power supply in Crimson Desert.

How to synthesize the Abyss Cell in Crimson Desert

To synthesize the Abyss Cell in Crimson Desert, you have to:

Learn Force Palm skill from the holographic demonstration
Use Force Palm on the cell

To learn the Force Palm skill, jump down and hold the 'Observe' button while looking at the holographic demonstration of someone punching the cell in front of them. The exact button to observe is displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. This is L1/LB if you're playing Crimson Desert with a PlayStation or Xbox controller.

Now you can hold down the button to power up and release Force Palm on the cell when the holograms disappear to reveal the real thing. The Force Palm skill is R3/RS by default if you're using a PlayStation or Xbox Controller. It'll take a few seconds, but the Abyss Cell will synthesize once you use Force Palm on it, and your objective will change to 'Activate the Abyss power supply,' AKA the closest I've come to tearing my hair out at a simple video game task in quite some time.

How to activate the Abyss power supply in Crimson Desert

To active the Abyss power supply in Crimson Desert, you have to:

Jump on the pillar under the circular door to climb up
Climb the circular door until you reach the middle
Use Force Palm to active the powered device

As you can see, "Powered Device" actually translates to "that great big door the cutscene and objective marker pointed your way to" all along. I'm not angry at myself, I'm just disappointed. Well… maybe a little angry.

If you're more skilled at following objective markers than I apparently am, you might have only got stuck looking for a way to reach the circular door. The easiest way to find the pillar leading up to this door is to look left and up of where you previously used Force Palm to synthesize the Abyss Cell.

From here, all you have to do to complete the 'Activate the Abyss power supply' objective is jump and climb to the middle of the door, then hold down Force Palm and let go when you've built up enough power. If you've done it correctly, the lights on the door will turn blue, Kliff will be flung off the door, and the 'Restore the Abyss' challenge will be marked as complete.

Complete Chapter 1

Your next task is to 'Take the Abyss Artifact,' but all this involves is climbing back up to the door and activating a cutscene to receive the Abyss Artifact automatically. To continue on with the story and complete Chapter 1 of Crimson Desert, all you have to do is speak with the woman in white and activate a cutscene to get a cool ability that'll make traversing the massive open world of Crimson Desert a little easier. Once you return to Harnand with the help of this ability, Chapter 2 will automatically activate. When you get close enough to your objective marker in Harnand, that is.

You can continue on with the main story, if you like, or go exploring with the help of your new ability. There's plenty of mini-games, side quests, and hidden discoveries to unearth in Crimson Desert, after all. However, you might want to continue with the main story for a little while, as it acts as a handy tutorial of what Kliff can do, and unlocks his other important skills.
